Super geek Pierce Omidyar ain’t only about the web. In his article back in 2004, he outlined why candidates running for elective posts should make sure their votes are well counted. The same can’t be truer for the elections coming up in 2007. Candidates should have volunteers who would be at every polling booths to tally the votes as they are being counted. That is another good way to counter rigging in the next general elections.At least, with wide spread usage of GSM, it cost absolutely next to nothing to send election results via SMS to a central place that is collating as INEC is doing its own. In fact, once everybody knows that everybody is following the count, the brazen attitude of rigging and substitution would be curtailed. A word is enough for the wise.

Wannabe gossip and chat website, justnaija.com is down again for the umpteenth time. The issue this time around is that even though the home page works, you can’t view threads.JustNaija is the answer to the undemocractic gulag of Nairaland. It was founded by some disgruntled citizens who decided to exile when the tyrannical behavious of Seun Osewa (The Demi God at Nairaland) couldn’t be tolerated anymore. Not everyone that left went to JustNaija, some folks like me simply died and went to heaven (though the obituary was mercilessly yanked from the Nairaland notice boardsg).

Anyway, back to my rantings. JustNaija came but what I noticed is that it just keeps going down every now and then. And as a friendly ghost, I need to let them know that they can’t pull crowd with such erratic behavior. In fairness to Nairaland, it is fairly pretty stable despite the fact that is almost 200 times bigger than JustNaija. May be it is teething problem. May be it is not.

Just got a book on Excel 2003 VBA and I thought of doing some reading and experiments. Along the line, I discovered that I couldn’t name a sub or function SayHello. Also, I couldn’t record a macro called SayHello. I wonder why because SayHello doesnt look like a yureserved keyword.

The ColdFusion 8th iteration is now hot on the cooker and everyone is wishing for this or that. For me, the following should be sorted out or included:

Better CFDOCUMENT
For the kind of work I do and for enterprise reporting, CFDOCUMENT is just too important but the present implementation is whacked from inside out. All the bugs should be squished and let’s get rolling. There should be more formats for the CFDOCUMENT. I suggest Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Better CFCHART
CF7 uses Green Point Webchart 5.0 Java Suite internal. Webchart has a whole lot more chart types that it makes CF’s own look like child’s play. New CFCHART should incorporate as many new types of charting components as possible. I mean, we need to impress some corporate dudes with fancy charts on the intranet portals.

CFAJAX
Adobe should get Spry matured quickly and let’s get it plugged right into CF8. There is nothing sweeter than being able to create web 2.0 application straight out of the box. I know we have Flex, but some people will never use Flex or it might not be needed everywhere. .NET have been playing with Ajax since anyone can remember.

.NET Interface
I wouldnt mind to be able to use .NET components in CF8. If we could use JIntegral then to work with COM objects, why cant I use all those fancy .NET components too? I mean, who wouldnt want the best of both worlds.

One of my friends (Ade who got married last year, remember him?) just dropped a gurl this morning. Can you imagine that despite all the bragging, he could only do a gurl. I guess if he has 2 more daughters, the three of them then would be equivalent to a boy. Or is my maths too generous?

Anyway, big congrats to Ade Luv and Yetunde. Next month, Ade and I are going shopping for Pit Bulls and double barrel pump action guns…
